Conference Venue

The Conference will be held at the Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista, the second most ancient (1261) of the six active “Scuole Grandi” in Venice before the Napoleonic suppression in 1806.
In medieval and renaissance Venice, the life of Catholics was deeply influenced by institutions named “Scuole” (Schools). Each “Scuola” (School) was a religious association governed by elected lay officials. On the basis of School Statute, the members were obligated to help each other both from the spiritual and the financial point of view and to offer personal services to both the living and the dead.

The Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista was saved from the destruction by well-deserving Venetians and in 1857 has become the seat of the Society of building Arts (Società per le Arti Edificatorie). In 1929 it has become a confraternity and even now it has a social and spiritual role.

The venue is very close (10-15 minutes walking) to the two access points of Venice: Piazzale Roma Car Terminal and the Railway Station (Stazione F.S. Venezia S. Lucia). It is also near to the waterbus stops of San Tomà and Ca' Rezzonico.
